Hello,
If you'd like to get out of a violent or abusive relationship, learn
how to heal and empower yourself and take control of your life... and if you want private self-help
information... then this might be the most important letter you'll ever read. Here's why.
My name is Cleon Athill. I am a
child-victim of domestic violence and abuse. I grew up in a family where my mother was
physically and emotionally abused by my father for decades.
I saw first hand what he did to her and how that experience negatively
affected her. And I know first hand - what it has done to my brothers, sisters and myself. For me, this was
domestic abuse up close and very personal.
Not only did my father abuse my mom, but he also abused us -
physically and emotionally. And it has left its mostly invisible, but deep marks of pain, hurt and
agony.
These domestic abuse problems seem to be pervasive in every community.
And the sad thing is that most of it is hidden... Generally, other people don't see our pain and
hurt.
I have always wanted to spotlight family violence and domestic abuse.
This has been a personal mission. Over the last thirty years, I have researched and studied this devastating
problem which affects one in every four women in the world.
I have not only provided direct services to victims but I have become
an outspoken advocate for victims and an outspoken critic of a world which largely minimizes and perpetuates
the global problem of domestic abuse and violence.
You Can Move
From Hurt to Hope As You Heal!
As a counseling and social psychologist, I have first had to work on
my own healing. As I have walked on my personal journey, I have learned how to empower myself. I have
developed self-confidence and a strong belief in my own abilities. And, I have worked in the trenches with
adult and child victims of domestic and family violence, sexual abuse and child abuse. I have seen how women
and their children can move from desperate dependency to fulfilling self-determination, from hurting to
healing, and from quiet suffering to quiet satisfaction.
In this very painful arena of domestic abuse, I have experienced
for myself - what works and what doesn't. I have heard from my clients how they moved from hurt to hope as
they healed. I have listened as they told how they took charge of their lives... how they made their biggest
decision!
What was their decision? They decided to walk away; To move forward -
To move on - And, then they decided not only to walk away... but to stay away.
But walking away from domestic violence is not easy... There are many,
many reasons why women to stay: children, housing, money, family issues, religious
As part of my desire to touch and help victims from across cultures
and around the world, I wanted to find a way to help others who have suffered like my mom. I wanted to find a
way to give others hope. And to go beyond home to give them clear information on how they too can take
charge... just like my mom eventually did.
So I wrote a book which thoroughly examines Domestic Violence. This
book (now in eBook form) presents the key information, techniques and strategies that I have used not
only to heal myself but to help and empower others. It presents some of the things my mom had to learn the
hard way to free herself from the abuse. It presents info about the challenges we face as we move from
desperation to determination to making a firm no-going back decision.
It also presents strategies that have come from
the personal experiences of some of my friends, professional colleagues. clients and others with whom I have worked
over the last twelve years. It presents strategies on how battered women can move forward with their lives and free
themselves from abuse... how they can protect children... and how they can do so safely.
Now, I know that you may probably be skeptical
about how much this book can help you. It is normal and healthy to be cautious about spending your money -
particularly online.
Let me give you three (3) clear reasons why I
can back up what I claim about the benefits of reading this book.
Reason
one: Because the motivation for writing this
ebook came from the painful and sometimes tragic experiences of members of my family, and the life
stories of some of my courageous friends and clients. I understand that your situation and your experiences
may be different from mine. I also understand that your responses to your situation may be
unique.
Furthermore, I understand that you may be
hurting... I understand that you may desire a change... I understand that you may want help... I understand that
you may feel stuck...
I wrote this book because I saw all of these
things in my family and in myself. I understand because my mother has been there... my brothers and sisters have
been there... I have been there. Your experiences my be different and unique... but you will learn more than a
few strategies that can help you free yourself from the abuse.
Reason
two: Because this book is written from both a
local and an international perspective bringing together success strategies and solutions, ideas, resources
and information from around the world. I answer all your questions and give you all the details you need...
and much more.
Reason
three: I wrote this book not only from a
personal perspective, but also from the perspective of a clinician who has worked cross-culturally with women
and children who are victims of domestic violence. I have seen the hurt and pain on the faces and in
the eyes of others... I have heard the agony in their voices. And I have experienced the trauma in their
stories. I have also been uplifted by their courage to make a change, their tenacity to keep looking for
solutions, their determination to take action and their willingness to face the future. I have been touched
by their journeys from hurting to healing and then... many have turned to helping
others. A part of your journey has been my
journey.
My purpose now is a genuine and heartfelt
desire to help you heal your hurt. For you to take charge and empower yourself. For you to make a decision... and
make your move away from any abuse. Without hype... just presenting clear, concise, useable information and
support.

Here are some facts that should concern
every person on the planet:
- The FBI reports that between 1976 and 1996, domestic violence claimed the
lives of more than four women each day in the United States.
- Every 9 seconds a woman is physically abused by her husband or intimate
partner.
- Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced
into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime. Most often the abuser is a member of her own
family.
- 7% of women suffer physical abuse by their partners, and 37% are verbally or
emotionally abused. In the year 2001, more than half a million American women (588,490 women)
were victims of nonfatal violence committed by an intimate partner.
- As many as 324,000 women each year
experience intimate partner violence and physical abuse during their
pregnancy.
- It is estimated that 2 million to 4 million US women are assaulted and are
victims of physical abuse by a domestic partner every year.
- Twelve million women (25% of the female population) will experience physical
abuse in their lifetime. Up to 35% of women and 22% of men presenting to the emergency
department have experienced domestic violence.
- 42% of murdered women are killed by their intimate partners.
- Of those victimized by an intimate partner, 85% are women and 15% are men.
In other words, women are 5 to 8 times more likely than men to be victimized by an intimate
partner.
If your children have witnessed the violence in your home, and even if you are no
longer in an abusive relationship... here is why you should still be concerned:
- Each year, an estimated 3.3 million children witness domestic
violence.
- Children in homes where domestic violence occurs are victims of physical
abuse or are seriously neglected at a rate 1500% higher than the national average in the
general population.
- Children from violent homes have higher risks of drug/alcohol abuse and
juvenile delinquency.
- Children in homes where domestic violence occurs may experience cognitive or
language problems, developmental delay, stress-related physical ailments and hearing and speech
problems.
- Lenore Walker's 1984 study found that mothers were 8 times more likely to hurt their children when they
were being battered than when they were safe from violence.
The bottom line is that even if you are not as concerned about your own plight as
you could be... you should be very concerned about the clear danger to your children's present and
future physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
