Do You Want to Know What to Do
When A Good Relationship Goes Bad?

Would You Like Information That will Help You to
Deal With
Domestic Violence, Family Violence,
Spousal Abuse and Battering?

Hi,

My name is Cleon Athill.  Take your mind back to when you were a child. Can you remember thinking about how your life would be as an adult?  I can. I remember thinking of having a good life: money to buy the things I want, a nice house, fine clothes, going on vacations to exotic places, a man who loves and respect me…a good life!

I know that you are no different from me, because I know that all of us, regardless of our circumstances, look to the future with great anticipation and hope. So I know that when you looked into the future you saw a rainbow.

And then one day you realized that the future had come. You are an adult. Where did the years go? Life from here looks differently and feels differently from how it looked back there as a child.

You feel trapped in your life: you are unhappy, and uncertain as to just what happened. Your relationship is a source of pain. The man whom you love is cruel, uncaring and unsupportive. He is the one causing you the pain through abusive behaviors and attitudes. You feel afraid, alone and ashamed. Some life… uh!

Well, yes, some life…just some. ‘Some’ can represent a small part of the whole.

So let’s talk about the whole. You have your whole life ahead of you. So as you stand in your spot now, look into the future and see it as you want it to be. Feel, now how you want to feel then. Feel, the joy, the strength, the power... These are your feelings and they are authentic. Feel the resolve…..feel the commitment to step into a different tomorrow.

You are now an adult, not a child. You have many resources that you can use to shape your future just the way you want it. By searching the internet for helpful resources you have started to do just that.

Here are list of things you need to do right now:

  1. Make a list of the pros and cons of staying in the relationship/marriage.

  2. Meditate on what is really keeping you back from moving forward.

  3. Focus on the feelings you have now... and then decide on whether those feelings are helping or hurting. For example, are those feelings keeping you stuck where you are. (Feelings such as: fear, loneliness, anger, self-pity, abandonment...)

  4. Decide what types of feelings would propel you forward. (Feelings such as: courage, fear for your safety, disgust, hope, 'anger', love of your children, self-love...)

  5. Make a list of at least 20 things that you could do to move forward. Do not stop until you have at least 20 things... then put them in order of priority.

  6. Imagine that you are a counselor who works with women who are in situations like yours. Write a letter to one of your clients listing the reasons why she should consider moving forward. Mail the letter.

  7. Yes... mail the letter to yourself.

  8. Do an internet search... and read everything you can find on domestic violence, family violence, spousal abuse, battered women, psychological abuse, male batterers, why women stay in violent relationships, steps to take to get out of domestic violence - read everything that you can. The information is free... and scattered. But there is lots of information on the internet. There are several helpful links a few paragraphs down and more at the bottom of this page that you can click on. There is no obligation to purchase anything.

  9. Now... write a persuasive argument on why you should make a change!
